Research Interests

Communication and interaction in children & adults with severe and profound disabilities, augmentative and alternative communication; services and service delivery models for people with disabilities in the UK and across a range of countries with differing approaches and resource levels. Using creative arts to develop interaction and communication with people with complex disabilities and their communication partners.

Research Projects

2009-2010: Communication and people with the most complex needs - what works and why this is essential: Mencap/DH Valuing People team £6000, evidence base for communication intervention is thin, but switch-based approaches and Intensive Interaction can be recommended, though further research is needed in all areas.
