Prof Sarah GroganProfessor

Research Interests

I am interested in body image and its impact on health-related behaviours. My sole-authored book Body Image: Understanding Body Dissatisfaction in Men Women and Children is now in its second edition. I am currently involved in various projects linking body image to smoking cessation, sun tanning, and exercise, and recently led work investigating impact of an age-appearance morphing programme on smoking cessation. I am also interested in smoking prevention and am a currently a grant holder on a Medical Research Council grant on smoking prevention.

I am currently involved in collaborative projects with researchers at University of Leeds, University of Manchester, Harvard Medical School USA, and Canberra University, Australia.

In 2013 I was elected to the Academy of Social Sciences for distinguished contribution to social sciences research.

Professional Body Membership and Activity

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Health Psychologist and a Sport and Exercise Psychologist.

Editorships and Consultancies

I am Associate Editor of the British Journal of Health Psychology, and on the editorial boards of Body Image and Journal of Health Psychology.
