Current and Recent Research Projects

September 2011-May 2015
Nuffield Foundation Africa Programme Mentoring staff to develop services for people with communication disabilities in Uganda. The overall aim of this project is to provide support for the development of independent and sustainable services for people with communication disabilities (PWCD) in Uganda and, in particular, to support the development of the additional skills needed by the newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and university staff, in order that they can develop these new services.

June 2014–January 2015
Work with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, to support the development of a SLTs' professional body in Sri Lanka and to evaluate the process. This work is supported by MMU, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and Multi Agency International Training and Support (MAITS).

January 2011-March 2014
National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) programme grant: Evidence based intervention for pre-school children with primary speech and language impairment. "Child Talk What Works". Led by North Bristol Trust, and in collaboration with MMU, UWE and University of Bristol.
Funding: £1.3 million, of which approximately £200k to MMU.
More information available at http://www.speech-therapy.btck.co.uk/evidencebasedintervention.

I co-ordinate the North West 'Qualitative Research in Health' group. If you are interested in carrying out health-based research using qualitative research some or all of the time, you are welcome to join the group, which meets at MMU.
